The Natural Way - Training reviews
Online Training ReviewsReview of online training including video analysis by Julie Hill. The process and outcomes are discussed below.
When you send Julie footage from a training session at home you learn at lot about the communication with your dog. It makes you think more about the things you want from your dog and how you ask it. Often it is you who asks the dog in the wrong way. When you come to see this and follow the instruction from Julie about how to ask in the right way, things you have been struggling with suddenly disappear. Julie also teaches you a lot about nonverbal communication, sheep sense and timing. This creates a more holistic picture or the 'whole picture' helping you understand what went wrong and how to correct it. Online training reviews provide more opportunities to see and understand where things are going wrong and more importantly how to correct issues. Julie's eye and questions will help you to make changes and enable you to start thinking the right way. This leads to concise instructions that you can work on at home make. You can follow up later with another video which Julie can then review and assess. |
The Natural WayJulie Hill's Natural Way online training provides an in depth understanding of how to work with your dog in a way which nurtures their innate potential.
Resources on the course include videos where Julie demonstrates with her dogs' key areas to focus on, e.g. balance and feel, and online feedback on the training videos you submit. These sessions via Zoom provide detailed feedback on each participant's progress and how to move forward productively. It feels like you have Julie by your side in the training field! All participants learn from each other too, as many of the areas we can find challenging when training our sheepdogs are universal. The knowledge gained is invaluable and can be applied to all the dogs you work with, whether newly started or older dogs. Julie's years of experience in working with sheepdogs means that you have an expert at your fingertips on the online training course and it's been a fantastic and enjoyable learning experience for me and my dog. Finally after so many years I have learnt how to work with my dog in a process of mutual learning. Teaching and not just commanding. What I find difficult is the right timing in putting pressure and release it. It's just the beginning of a long path but who starts well ends well! Thank you - Julie |
Thanks for the feedback. I feel this session was extremely beneficial to me. My own ways of learning is by instruction and observations. Julie’s observations of my teaching and watching the clients body language relayed down to the dog has been instrumental. Also watching everyone else with their clients and Julie’s amazing coaching and feed back has really helped me in to move forward as an instructor. Thank you.

Tim and Ginny are The Nature of Natural team. We've produced and hosted many horse, stock and stock dog educational events over the years. We are all about helping animals by helping people successfully connect the dots to their goals. Connecting dots is really about connecting principles. We are in the process of revamping our web site, launching new events next year and offering consulting services. Julie Hill and Tim McGaffic at the Julie Hill clinic this fall at the Allen Ranch in Crawford CO.Julie Hill Clinic takeaway: Our work at The Nature of Natural is all about connecting the dots to achieve success when working with people, dogs, horses and stock. One of Julie's first comments was the importance of developing a good attitude in the dog towards the sheep and to help a dog learn to think about his work and his relationship as your working partner. Of course it goes unsaid that this is equally important for the human to develop a good and compassionate attitude to the dog and stock and what the big picture of that relationship looks like. The most important piece is to think. THINK ….imagine that. |
Face to face training is great but there is no doubt you have less time and opportunity to review because you have to watch your both your dog and the sheep. It is easy to get confused in this environment. Online training may have been borne out of necessity but we have found to very pleasing and the progression made with dogs has made it all the more pleasurable.
Julie is an excellent trainer with a natural empathy for people and their dogs. Her attitude encourages learning and facilitates good understanding and communication with your dog.
Julie can make a recording of your online session so you can watch it over and over again. If you want to learn more about communication with your dog and how to work with sheep then this is a very good opportunity.
