Carcant FarmI have been the tenant farmer on the 239.5 Hectare (600 acre) Carcant Estate in the Scottish Borders for 14 years.
I have always enjoyed teaching and found it came naturally to me. I have been teaching both individuals and groups at home and around the world on how to use the 'pressure/release' method I developed to train and handle my own Border Collies. My shepherding days began in East Anglia, which is where my passion for the working Border Collie began. Taking me on a journey to understand the language of the dog. |
When I moved to Scotland it took me and my sheepdogs to some of the remotest, most rugged hill terrain in the UK.
As the sole shepherd, I single-handedly tended 1000 sheep grazing over 8000 acres. The experience showed me the critical importance of having exceptionally good working sheepdogs and the limits of endurance both the shepherd and dog have to achieve to cope with everyday shepherding tasks. |
Julie Hill is one the most successful trainers in the history of international sheepdog trials. She has won the ISDS International Supreme Championship as well as the International Brace Championship, Scottish National Singles and Brace and Driving Championship, International Farmer's Championship, and International Shepherd's Championship.

The basis of Julie's training technique is steeped in understanding and utilising the language of the dog as a pack animal. Thus enabling us to communicate with our dogs through body language.
