Julie's  acclaimed book "The Natural Way" written in 2003 (under the name "Julie Simpson") described her experience of sheepdog training and trialing with great insight, positive encouragement and numerous anecdotes. Because of her 'non-traditional' background, she has had to learn everything from scratch and so is now well positioned to help many others who similarly do not have a background in stock management. 

The book described her life from a non-farming background up to her historic 1996 Supreme International Championship victory, plus discussed her training method 'The Natural Way' in detail. 

Her training method involves harnessing and guiding the natural abilities and instincts of the dog. The book explained how to use body language to produce a pressure/release technique that develops a mutual communication and understanding with your dog. She shows how promoting the dog's correct responses in a positive way builds a solid foundation for the dog to learn. Without these strong foundations, the dog can get confused and develop behavioural problems.
